What this test is for
This test focuses on comparing AI video tools for different types of video tasks, including:
- Adding VFX

- Changing characters

- Fixing specific parts of a video

- Generating video from storyboard references

Instead of starting from a blank prompt, existing footage, images, character references, scene references, and storyboard frames are used as inputs to test how each model handles different tasks.
For this comparison, Gemini Omni and Seedance use the same prompts, same input footage, and same reference assets.
The goal is to evaluate
- How each model handles the same task
- The quality of the generated results
- How accurately each model follows instructions
- How well each model preserves original footage and reference assets
Test types in this comparison
- Adding visual effects (VFX) to existing footage
- Changing characters in footage
- Fixing or refining specific details inside footage
- Creating video shots from existing storyboard frames
Test setup
Before starting the test, prepare the required input assets first. You can use real footage clips, still images, character references, or storyboard frames, depending on the type of result you want to generate.
For video-based tests, use short clips for better processing accuracy. In this comparison, video inputs are limited to 10 seconds or less.
Then generate the result using prompts prepared for the intended purpose, such as adding VFX, changing characters, fixing specific details, or generating video from storyboard references.
Example 1 β Use AI for VFX
This test focuses on adding visual effects to existing footage. The goal is not to generate a new clip, but to enhance the original footage with a specific VFX direction while preserving the existing scene, subject, and camera movement.
Prompt (copy/paste): Add realistic orange-yellow fire VFX to the womanβs hair only, with subtle smoke, sparks, heat shimmer, and warm flickering light on nearby hair, face edge, shoulder, and cape. Preserve her face, outfit, pose, body, cape, camera angle, blue sky, daylight, and shadows. Keep skin unharmed. Realistic film VFX composite, not sci-fi, not magic, no neon, no aura, no blue flames, no burns, no background change.

Result
Seedance produced better results in preserving the original footage details. Looking closely, Gemini Omni changed some elements from the original footage. For example, the cape color was altered. In the original footage, the cape contains both black and gray tones, while the Gemini Omni result kept only the black color. The pattern detail in the center of the outfit was also missing.
For the VFX itself, both models performed well. The fire effect on the hair and the smoke details were generated successfully in both results.
However, Seedance showed better consistency in preserving the original footage while still adding the effect effectively.
Example 2 β Change the character
This test focuses on changing or transforming characters in existing footage. The goal is not to generate a new clip, but to modify the character while preserving the original scene, pose, movement, and overall composition.
Prompt 1: Change the woman in the video to a man while maintaining the same action.

Prompt 2: Change the woman in the video to an old woman while maintaining the same actions.

Result
For the male character replacement test, Seedance produced better results in matching the original footage, especially in terms of pose consistency and the closed-eye expression.
For the elderly female character test, Gemini Omni performed better in preserving the original environment. The location and overall scene remained consistent with the source footage. In comparison, the Seedance result changed the environment, camera angle, and scene perspective, resulting in a different location and shot composition from the original footage.
Example 3 β Edit details in footage
This test focuses on correcting or refining specific details in existing footage. The goal is not to remake the whole video, but to modify targeted areas while preserving the original scene, movement, and overall composition. In this test, the actorβs face is removed while keeping the rest of the footage unchanged.
Prompt: Remove the face, leaving only the mouth; everything else remains the same.

Result
For the face removal test on the female character, both models produced good results and followed the prompt accurately. The face removal was completed successfully in both outputs, and no major differences were observed between the two models.
Neither model showed a clear advantage in this test.
Example 4 β Generate video from storyboard
This test focuses on generating video from storyboard references. Storyboard frames are used to define the shot direction and visual flow, while the attached character image and scene image are used as references for actor appearance and environment. The video is then generated based on the storyboard, character, and scene inputs.
Prompt: Show me in this story. Follow the story exactly in order starting top left.Luxury menswear commercial storyboard, cinematic gentleman preparation sequence, Main actor reference: Young handsome man matching reference image. European appearance, soft masculine features, warm brown eyes, slightly tousled dark brown hair with textured fringe falling naturally over forehead, light stubble around upper lip and jawline, defined jaw, natural skin texture, elegant fashion model appearance. Same actor from reference image wearing elegant tailored navy suit. Style: premium menswear advertisement, cinematic masculinity warm tungsten lighting

Result
For the storyboard generation test, both models produced fairly similar results.
However, in terms of shot accuracy, Seedance performed better, especially in matching the storyboard frame size and keeping the environment consistent with the attached scene reference.
For character accuracy, both Gemini Omni and Seedance generated results that were close to the actor reference images.
There was one exception in Scene 3, where the male character was shown from the back. In this shot, Seedance was less accurate, as the hair appeared longer than the original character design. Gemini Omni produced a result that matched the character more closely.
For image quality and color, Gemini Omni produced more visually appealing colors, while the skin texture appeared more realistic and closer to real human skin.
